La tenture d’Abomey au Bénin : contribution à la valorisation d’un art de la cour royale

Abstract

Le présent mémoire de master s’intéresse à la promotion de la tenture, un art de la cour royale à Abomey au Bénin par souci de transmission de son savoir-faire aux générations à venir et aussi dans le but de faire bénéficier à ces artisans, des retombées de leurs activités. S’il y a des domaines dans lesquels la famille Yèmadjè et alliées ont et continuent de marquer leur présence sur les terres béninoises, c’est la tenture. Cet aspect identitaire de leur culture mérite d’être valorisé et pérennisé. En effet, la culture, composante du cadre de vie, est une source de revenus liée au tourisme, un levier de créativité pour la production de biens et services. Mais de nos jours, ce pan de la culture Fon d’Abomey qu’est la tenture ne dispose pas d’un cadre adéquat pour sa promotion. La famille Yèmadjè et alliées ont besoin d’être soutenue au regard des prescriptions de l’UNESCO relatives à la promotion du Patrimoine Culturel Immatériel (PCI). Les différentes mesures de promotion sont bien prescrites dans la Convention de 2003 que la République du Bénin a ratifiés, très soucieuse de la survie du PCl et de ses composantes présentes sur son territoire. Nous proposons un projet de création du CIPTAT qui sera installé dans la cité historique d’Abomey, pour la promotion et la pérennisation de ce patrimoine identitaire qu’est la tenture en attendant le renforcement de cette mesure par la Direction du Patrimoine Culturel et la Direction de l’Artisanat et des Organisations Professionnelles du Bénin. La Direction du Patrimoine Culturel du Bénin pourra organiser l’inventaire du patrimoine immatériel présent sur le territoire de la République du Bénin et disposer de sa liste indicative afin de bénéficier, pleinement, des avantages qu’offre la Convention de 2003. Ce centre a la vocation d’être un cadre de labellisation pour stimuler la créativité des artisans et les faire vivre de leurs métiers. Il sera un exemple de mise en valeur du Patrimoine Culturel Immatériel en général et du savoir-faire artisanal en particulier avec des offres touristiques variées et de bonnes qualités. Nous avons fait une estimation financière du projet de création de CIPTAT qui s’élève à 519 735,69 EUR. La construction de ce centre apporterait beaucoup, nous l’espérons, à l’édification d’un Bénin prospère car la culture est et demeure le socle de tout développement durable dans les pays du monde.

This master's thesis focuses on the promotion of tapestry, an art of the royal court in Abomey in Benin for the sake of transmitting its know-how to future generations and also with the aim of benefiting these artisans, of their activities. If there are areas in which the Yèmadjè family and allies have and continue to mark their presence on the Beninese lands, it is the hangings. This identity aspect of their culture deserves to be valued and perpetuated. Indeed, culture, as a component of the living environment, is a source of income linked to tourism, a lever of creativity for the production of goods and services. But nowadays, this part of the Fon of Abomey culture that is the hanging does not have an adequate framework for its promotion. The Yèmadjè family and allies need to be supported in the light of UNESCO's prescriptions concerning the promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICP). The various promotional measures are well prescribed in the 2003 Convention which the Republic of Bénin has ratified, very concerned about the survival of the PCI and its components present on its territory. We propose a project for the creation of the CIPTAT, which will be installed in the historic city of Abomey, for the promotion and perpetuation of this heritage of identity that is the hanging until the reinforcement of this measure by the Direction of Cultural Heritage and the Direction Crafts and Professional Organizations of Benin. The Direction of Cultural Heritage of Benin will be able to organize the inventory of the intangible heritage present on the territory of the Republic of Benin and to have its indicative list in order to fully benefit from the advantages offered by the 2003 Convention. This center has the vocation of being a labeling framework to stimulate the creativity of craftsmen and make them live their crafts. It will be an example of the enhancement of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in general and craft know-how in particular with varied and good quality tourist offers. We have made a financial estimate of the proposed creation of CIPTAT which amounts to 519,735.69 EUR. The construction of this center would, it is hoped, bring a lot to the building of a prosperous Benin, because culture is and remains the foundation of all sustainable development in the countries of the world.
