Résumé: The objective of this work was to show the effect of external debt on Cameroon's economic growth. For the verification of our hypotheses we have used secondary source data from the World Bank database in the “World Development Indicator 2020” and in the Human Development Reports 2020. These data cover the period 1982 to 2019. We used the basic external debt model of Sala-imartin (1997) to estimate our parameters. For the econometric analysis, we used the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lags) method. Statistically speaking, our study showed us that our model was well specified and the results obtained confirm that the external debt has a negative effect on Cameroon's economic growth. This is justified by the fact that the coefficient of determination R 2 and the adjusted R 2 are very high. Proof that the model was good for forecasting purposes. Thus, the total variation in economic growth in Cameroon was explained respectively at 89.83% (coefficient of determination) and 86.77% (adjusted coefficient of determination) by the regression model. Evidence the Breusch-Godfrey test also proved that the model was good for prediction purposes.
