Résumé: The thesis that was the subject of our study is entitled “incarceration of the woman and family harmony: case of mothers detained at the Ebolowa prison”. Through this theme I would like to show the impact of mother’s imprisonment on her family. More precisely, this study aims to present the existing situation in the family, before and during the imprisonment, if this imprisonment has not altered the quality of family health. Therefore, as the main question we asked ourselves whether the imprisonment of women does not affect family health. As the main hypothesis we maintain that the incarceration of the mother causes alterations in the familial harmony. The main objective of our work is to show the consequences of the mother’s incarceration on her family. For the methodology, we opted for qualitative method, we collected the data using the semi-structured interview guide. According to our study it emerges that the hypothesis1 relating to the mother-child break-up influences family harmony is confirmed, hypothesis2 that absence of mother-child contact impact on family harmony was confirmed, that relating to the stigmatization of children following the incarceration of the mother alters the family harmony impact of incarceration is also confirmed.
