Résumé: The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of the meaning of work on the work commitment of Cameroonian security officers; it therefore raises the question of whether the meaning of work contributes to their work commitment. The general hypothesis being that the sense of work increases the work commitment of agents, to verify this we carried out a field survey among 113 security agents in the city of Yaoundé. We administered a questionnaire assessing on one hand the meaning of work and on the other hand the commitment to work. The tools were chosen from the literature review we conducted for each of these concepts. The data collected were subject to a double analysis: descriptive and inferential. The results of the simple linear regression analyses revealed that the dimensions of meaning (utility and understanding) have a statistically significant effect on agents' commitment to work. The usefulness of work as expected significantly increases the level of commitment to work (normative and emotional). This result clarifies the role of the usefulness of the work of agents as a determining factor in their commitment to work. In the trajectory of Davoine and Meda (2008), let us remember that a job is perceived as useful when it allows the employee to help others, to develop himself and to be useful to society. Thus, such work logically allows workers to be engaged. Regarding to the understanding of work dimension, the results indicate that security guards working in a sector of activity where work is not well organized do not seem to clearly understand their work. This lack of understanding of the work is an obstacle to the commitment to work of the agents. According to Bernaud (2015), an employee who does not have a good understanding of his work, who does not really have knowledge and the techniques that would allow him to practice his profession has difficulties identifying with it and therefore tends to reduce his commitment to work.
