City dwellers have become attached to the consumption patterns of modern societies. The immediate effect of this social change was the increase in waste production. In the Municipality of Yaoundé 1, the weight of waste production is very high. Annual production in this area is estimated at 960,000 kg of waste. Most potentially recoverable waste is left in illegal dumps and certain places indicated for collection. The recovery of this waste also comes up against cultural values which, in most Cameroonian societies, still consider waste and all those who handle it as something despicable. This simplistic perception keeps many people away from activities related to the collection of household waste. The present work is entitled: "Problems of the collection of household waste and impacts on the health of the populations in the Yaoundé 1 Commune". It was carried out with the aim of drawing up the inventory of fixtures of the collection of household waste in the Municipality of Yaoundé 1, identify the different types of household waste collection; as well as the regulatory and institutional substrate around it in order to analyze the constraints encountered by the populations around the collection and finally identify the consequences of the poor management of the collection of household waste on the health of the populations in this Commune. To verify the main hypothesis and the related specific hypotheses, we compared the initial hypotheses to the reality on the ground in order to obtain the results contained in four chapters. This work addresses the issue of household waste collection as a real and important problem that will have to be managed upstream. Despite the many efforts put in place by the State and certain organizations and associations, and even the populations themselves in the context of waste collection, this problem still seems to be of concern. This is what explains the establishment of a set of strategies both for the populations and the competent institutions. This promotes the efficient and sustainable management of household waste collection in order to minimize the risks to the health of populations.en_US
