The contribution of family farming in the process of food security and sovereignty is increasingly recognized. In Africa and in Chad in particular, a certain number of actors are officially committed to diversified agriculture, based on the concepts of sustainable development. It is by taking this context into account that the idea of carryng out a study on the contribution of family farming to food security in the Gounou canton in southern Chad came to us. Also, this work is intented above all to be a contribution to the diagnosis of family farming. However, we have identified the work that has been done in correlation with our theme. Then, we conducted surveys among the local population and the administrative authorities in charge of agriculture and food security. All this, whih a view to taking stock of family farming in the Gounou canton and seeing who the octors are, showing the place of family farming in local consumption to analyze food security in this canton and the difficulties faced by this sector of activity encountered by this sector of activity ? What is the most appropriate way to intervene and how aid and food assistance or interventions in other sectors can contribute to supporting populations at risk ? The results obtained show an inventory of the agriculture in the Gounou canton whit a family character, that is to say, an agriculture based on family labor and praticed near dwelling houses. However, from the point of view of the dynamism of the actors in this sector of activity, agricultural production and productivity are important in this part of Chad. This means that there is less severe food insecurity in this canton. Despite some difficulties noted, the agriculture practiced in the Gounou canton remains a lever for sustaible development and food security in the sub-region. Isn’t the Gounou canton therefore an example for the remnants of Chad for sustainable food security ? Hasn’t the time come to bring together the conditions that can allow the implementation of family farming to meet the food needs for sustainable development for the Gounou canton and Chad in general ? The responses can be adopted by a mechanism for monitoring and supporting actors as well as alerting on natural conditions (climat change) unfavorable for agriculture.en_US
