L’assistance financière chinoise au Cameroun (1973-2018)

Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Chinese financial assistance to Cameroon (1973-2018)". It aims to make an assessment of china's financial assistance to cameroon's development process. This study was conducted using field survey methods and the use of numerous documentary sources of various kinds. The critical analysis and the interpretation of ideas were based on the theory of dependence, a thematic, chronological and interdisciplinary approach. This study shows that, China is an industrialized country out to conquer new markets and raw materials. Cameroon meanwhile, needs the necessary funds to finance its major projects in order to revitalise and diversify its economy; reason why China financially assists Cameroon for a "win-win" partnership. Overall, China's assistance to cameroon's development efforts has steadily increased over the past eighteen (18) years, after a slow start. Since the advent of the international financial crisis of the 1980, china has appeared to Cameroon as the donon those access to financial ressources is one of the most flexilble and devoid of political conditionalities. China respond favorably by supporting the economic and social developement of Cameroon. It simultaneously finances several major infrastructure projection in all strategic sectors (energiy, building, sport, culture, drinking water, etc.). However, it is up to Cameroon, not to adhere blindly to this policy of chinese financial aid, for fear of suffering from the weight of debt and remaining dependent. Keys words:
