Résumé: Transition moment from a working to a non-working situation, retirement arouses fear and apprehensions about the way it will be lived. These worries lead most of retired people to develop new activities in order to deal with various charges and solicitations they are subject to. This research, which focuses on « Civil administrators and retirement’s management in Yaoundé », has as main question is: how do civil administrators organize in order to manage their retirement? To come out with some understanding, the following hypothesis was formulated: their retirement’s management depends on their socialization and on the different resources they mobilize before and during retirement. It aims to understand the socioeconomic dynamic of socioprofessionnal retraining, using the specific case of civil administrators. In its realization, three theories were mobilized namely the theory of social representation of Moscovici, the theory of effectuation of Sarasvathy and the theory of capital of Bourdieu. Practically, based on a qualitative approach, datas were collected from fifteen (15) retired civil administrators, following the snowball sampling method. The study was based on the exploitation of data collected through observation, life story and interview emphasizing on the determinants of the choice of their activities and also on the resources they mobilize in this process. The present study is organized in two parts: the first part focuses on the institutional approach and the social representations of retirement by civil administrators. The second analyses, the socioprofessional retraining process of this social category. Our results indicate that, firstly the choice of a specific activity is determined by culture. Culture considered as ethnicity and result of their socialization. Secondly, this retraining process depends not only on the economic, social and symbolical resources they mobilize, but mostly on the quality of this resources and their ability to impact significantly on the process. And finally, on the temporality in which these resources are mobilized.
