L’armée tchadienne entre dynamisme et enjeux (1960 à 2020)

Abstract

This research paper, entitled “Chadian Army: Between Dynamism and Stakes: 1960- 2020”, highlights the role of the Chadian army in the creation of national and international security. The main question that underlies this reflection is what are the stakes of the Chadian army's security participation both within and outside its international borders? To answer this question, this analysis is based on an eclectic, empirical, and transdisciplinary approach that draws on other sciences such as Polemology, Political Science, and Geopolitics. These disciplines enabled us to define the subject, establish the phenomenology of security threats, and decipher the issues and response strategies of the Chadian army. To carry out this work, we have mobilized a multitude of archival sources, a range of articles from various disciplines, as well as a dozen scientific works. These sources have been examined and critically analyzed to better understand the reality of the phenomenon under study. This analysis is based on security realism as a reading grid. It shows that the Chadian army's investment in security, both internally and externally, reflected in its swift and decisive repression of insurgent and jihadist threats in the Sahel, proves its dynamism and resilience against instability and insecurity, Even if there is dynamism in the security offer of the Chadian army, the problems of social inclusion within it and especially the absence of prospects for economic and social progress for the population are likely to resurrect the challenges and security issues in the country. Hence the need for the Chadian state to take full measures of the problem and act accordingly to discourage belligerent and criminogenic resources in the country.
