Résumé: This dissertation, entitled 'Collective promotion and acquisition of pupils' skills in primary education in the Republic of Chad', examines the relationship between the abolition of repetition and the acquisition of pupils' skills in basic education in Chad. This reform seems to have resulted in a drop in the level of Chadian pupils, which is reflected in a low success rate in national examinations and international tests. Today, the school in Chad is no longer what society expects: a source of knowledge, an enterprise for the formation of skills on which the future of the country and of humanity must rest. The attention of the political decision-maker is focused only on the enrolment of pupils without thinking about improving the quality of the education provided with the support of the collective promotion of pupils. We set ourselves the objective of understanding how the suppression of repetition through the implementation of collective promotion leads to a drop in the level of education, which hinders the sustainability of the students' education. To support our research hypothesis, we worked with sixty-one actors in the Chadian primary education system. An interview guide was developed which enabled us to collect data and analyse it using the content analysis technique. The results obtained after the analysis attest that collective promotion negatively influences the acquisition of skills of pupils collectively promoted to the next grade. Thus, we suggest a study on collective promotion to policy makers who should take into account the issue of quality of education. In addition, the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills should be monitored in the perspective of sustainable development. This means leading the student to become an educated, reflective, responsible and active citizen capable of exercising his or her intellectual skills of creation, analysis and judgement while allowing him or her to fulfil his or her potential and develop his or her personality. Hence the quality education that must enable him to truly integrate into his environment and contribute to the development of the society in which he lives in all its dimensions.
