The practice of agriculture and the development of African communities of Ancient Egypt and Nkwen Fondom, North West region of Cameroon

Abstract

Our study titled “The Practice of Agriculture and the Development of African Communities in Ancient Egypt and the Nkwen Fondom” discusses African traditional agricultural methods and technics as a starting point of all socio-political and economic institutions. It is a comparative study of the various agricultural practices that were undertaken in Ancient Egypt (New Kingdom)1 and the Nkwen Fondom in the North West Region of Cameroon (morden time). It should be recalled that agricultural practices in ancient African communities has always been organised in season and the most predominant type of agricultural practices were the subsistent and irrigation methods of agriculture. As such, the practice of agriculture by the Ancient Egyptians and the Nkwen people tremendously helped in the socio-political and economic development of African and other modern world communities. Thanks to the qualitative methods used, and based on our oral and written sources, we arrived at the conclusion that due to some favourable agricultural factors and the organisational farming capacities of the Ancient Egyptians and the Nkwen people agriculture played a very important role in the development of African communities, irrespective of some difficulties faced. 1
