This work is in the field of Intervention and Extracurricular Guidance, and particularly Community Intervention and Action. It is entitled Automobile Traffic in the City of Yaoundé and Destruction of the Environment. This subject was chosen because it has been observed that traffic in the city of Yaoundé is very heavy during rush hour, particularly between 7.30 and 9.30 in the morning and between 2.30 and 5.30 in the evening. From time to time, the city experiences traffic jams and several cars emit huge quantities of black or clear smoke. These vehicles, which are generally second-hand from Europe, are bought in their countries of origin, having already outlived their useful life. The black fumes they give off invade the atmosphere and affect air quality. Car traffic in the city of Yaoundé generates pollution, and the repercussions on the environment are notorious. Traffic congestion and an ageing car fleet in Yaoundé are putting the environment at risk. The air is not pure and also encourages the accumulation of greenhouse gases. Yaoundé residents are buying cars that, for the most part, no longer comply with environmental standards or pollution limits of 128g of CO2 per km. Owning a car has become a new trend in Cameroonian society. The use of public transport is considered to be for the poor. Several strategies have been adopted by the institutions in charge of environmental issues in the country to combat air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Despite laws on air quality, decrees and international conventions on strategies to preserve the environment, air pollution in the city of Yaoundé is on the increase. By 2022, there will be more than one million Cameroonian cars on the road. It has also been noted that the people of Yaoundé are not really being educated about the health and environmental risks posed by cars. There are a number of concerns about the stability over time of the harmfulness of particulate matter and the level of exposure to these pollutants. This raises the question of how car traffic contributes to the destruction of the environment.fr_FR
