Résumé: Upon gaining its independence, Cameroon launched the construction of the national roadway network, precisely the N°1 National Road, in order to reach its socioeconomic development objectives. This study falls within the same theme namely: the Yaoundé-Obala roadway and its contribution to the socioeconomic development of resident populations (1961-2019). For this purpose, the main question is what should bring that road, as effects to the process of construction of the country and the welfare of resident’s population? It’s about to show that road boosts the economic growth and improve the living conditions of populations. Answering to this question, the diachronic approach used lead us to the history conventional research methods as well as consulting documentary, oral and electronic sources. One realize therefore that the Yaoundé-Obala road and its interconnected rural roads allowed the opening up of peripheral cities throughout the transports of people and goods, the increasing of socioeconomic activities by trades and cultural exchanges, and favors employment. However, it causes traffic accidents, environmental and social degradation which could be reduced by reforms in human and financial resources management of road projects.
