Résumé: A number of studies have highlighted the reasons why adults return to education (Vertogen et al, 2009). However, they have not always taken into account the reasons why women, and in particular married women, return to university. Yet this phenomenon is observed in almost every university in the world, and increasingly in Africa, particularly within the Faculty of Education at the University of Yaoundé I. In this dissertation we asked ourselves what motivates married women returning to study at the Faculty of Education? Based on Vroom's theory of expectations (1964), we formulated the following hypothesis: psychosocial, professional, economic and cultural motivations influence married women's return to study at the FSE. The aim was to understand the psychosocial, professional, economic and cultural factors influencing married women's return to university. To achieve this objective, we used a qualitative method. We conducted semi-structured interviews with married women from the Faculty of Education. The content analysis technique was used to analyse the interviews. The results obtained, which were interpreted using Vroom's theory, show that women's return to education is influenced by several factors caused by environmental pressures on the one hand, and individual pressures on the other. These results therefore lend some relevance to our main objective.
