Résumé: | Like subdivisions in the immediate vicinity of the city of Yaoundé, Okola’s subdivision suffers from the effects of the metropolisation: hence, this study which focuses on “Uncontrolled urbanization of Yaoundé peripheral spaces: the example of Okola’s subdivision”. The requalification of the peripheral spaces of Okola’s subdivision finds its origins in the redeployment of the populations of the city of Yaoundé towards this subdivision. This is justified by the attractiveness of the city of Yaoundé which has important infrastructures of all types. She knows how a significant demographic growth through time, but this strong migration attractiveness is not accompanied by the increase in housing supply, hence the spatial extension and the uncontrolled urbanization at its peripheries. This results in several negative impacts, among which the environmental degradation, diffusion of the administrative boundaries of the subdivisions involved, land speculation, various social conflicts, spontaneous and under-structured neighborhoods in a context marked by poverty, etc. Solutions to control the unwanted effects of metropolization of Yaoundé in Okola’s subdivision have been evoked. This is essentially going to be an active metropolitan governance that promotes complementary relationships and governance of Okola oriented towards the implementation of its Urban Summary Plan. The methodological approach used in this research is part of a hypothetico-deductive approach. It combines the exploitation of bibliographic data and the results of direct observations, household surveys and semi-direct guidelines with the different local actors chosen according to their typology and location on the study territory. |
