La mémoire : traces, fonctions et enjeux dans la disparition de la langue française d’Assia Djebar et la saison de l’ombre de Léonora Miano

Abstract

The present work examInes the aesthetics of memory in two postcolonial novels: Assia Djebar's La Disparition de la langue française and Léonora Miano's La Saison de l'ombre. Based on the constant writing of memory in the African novel, this dissertation aims to analyze the traces of this poetics in order to identify its cognitive, aesthetic and social functions and stakes. To this end, we have adopted Jean-Pierre Richard's analytical grid, namely thematic analysis. In the end, we were able to demonstrate that the writing of memory projects itself into a union between the executioners and victims of the past, in order to achieve historical truth, the establishment of responsibilities, forgiveness and the construction of new identities.
