Résumé: | The present research work, entitled "Repercussions of the rise of international terrorism in Cameroon (2013-2023)" highlights the need for a concerted and strategic response against terrorism, at the national and international levels. The central question underlying this reflection is to know what are the consequences of the rise of the international terrorism in Cameroon. To answer this concern, we employed a socioconstructivist approach and utilized a mixed-methods research design, allowing for meticulous collection and analysis of written and oral data. International terrorism in Cameroon has generated profoundly destabilizing consequences, necessitating robust economic and security responses. Attacks perpetrated by extremist groups such as Boko Haram in the Far North region and the anti-balaka in the East have sown terror among the population and threatened the country's stability. Faced with this growing threat, the Cameroonian government has implemented a series of measures aimed at countering terrorism while preserving the country's economic integrity. On the economic front, the results of these measures have been mixed. Although economic diversification policies have been undertaken to mitigate the negative effects of terrorist attacks on traditional sectors, persistent challenges remain. Investments in critical infrastructure have bolstered the country's economic resilience, but the reconstruction of regions affected by terrorism remains a major challenge. Despite progress made, gaps persist in terms of resource mobilization and effective implementation of economic policies. On the security front, the outcomes have been more encouraging. Coordinated military operations and international cooperation have led to significant advances in neutralizing terrorist groups and securing borders. Progress has been made in degrading terrorist networks and protecting citizens, although challenges remain in terms of coordination among different security forces and protecting civilian populations. Coordination between national and international actors is essential to ensure an integrated and effective response, to guarantee the security and prosperity of Cameroon in the years to come. |
