The present research highlights road users’ behaviours, as well as their beliefs and representations, in line with their mobility and encounters with speed cameras on national roads number 3 (Yaounde-Douala) and 4 (Yaounde-Bafoussam) in Cameroon. The speed cameras, which support road signalling and reinforce road safety measures, pose a problem regarding the strategies employed by motorists to circumvent this tool, despite the risks involved, regulations, and the government's tightening of punitive measures. The research is mainly based on two theories: Michel Crozier and Erhard Friedberg's theory of strategic analysis and Howard Saul Becker's labelling theory. Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilised techniques such as direct observation, participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentary research. Content analysis was employed to process the information collected in the field. The research is presented in four chapters, covering topics ranging from the organization of interurban traffic and the functioning of speed cameras, to the users' beliefs and representations. It also explores the methods and intelligence strategies employed by users, as well as the behaviours influenced by the presence of speed cameras. The findings of this research indicate that the ambiguity surrounding the operation of road speed cameras, coupled with questionable road infrastructure, undermines the effectiveness of this accident prevention system. Moreover, it reinforces certain perceptions and stereotypes among road users, leading to a constant game of actions and reactions between them and the authorities responsible for road safety. This game is characterized by pursuits and continuous attempts to evade capture.fr_FR
