Résumé: | Most of the research that has been carried out on the preference for one news program over another in the television media has focused on the conditions that a presenter must meet to win viewer loyalty. More rarely, a quantitative approach analyzes the stakes of the enunciative device in the choice of a newscast. Our research objective is to verify whether enunciative devices explain the high ratings of a television medium during the 8 p.m. news hour. The basis of data was collected through questionnaires from 102 participants (a “non- random” selection procedure) and statistically analyzed through scores (N) and percentages (%). The results reveal that a presenter’s skills, the types of topics, and the people featured explain viewers’ preference for a news program on a TV channel. The study offers an insight into the factors involved in choosing a television news program by giving viewers a voice without exclusion criteria, but with the set hypotheses and avenues on which to build and inform language science researchers of the relevance of the quantitative approach in determining effective enunciation devices based on field evidence. |
