The study of motivation at work is a necessity for all organisations in an entropic and chaotic context (Masclet, 2010) that is plunging them into crisis. Sociologists, psychologists, journalists, politicians and men in the street have all confirmed the existence of this problem (Leboyer, 1984). Since Lewin (1960), studies have been carried out emphasizing a materialist motivational dimension, particularly through the question of salaries and remuneration, but also an immaterialist dimension likely to influence the nature of the work positions held by the company, as well as the psychology of the staff. It is in this context that our research which main objective is to ascertain whether the characteristics of the job and the perceived meaning of the work increase the work motivation of HYSACAM-Yaounde cleaners comes in. To achieve this objective, a survey of 119 cleaners was carried out. The tools used for data collection were chosen on the basis of the literature review of each concept: work motivation, meaning of work and job characteristics. The data collected was subjected to a dual analysis: descriptive and inferential. The results of the binary logistic regression analyses revealed that certain dimensions of the job characteristics (task feedback, autonomy, variety of skills, job identification, etc.) were associated with a higher degree of job satisfaction. In fact, a useful work with the characteristics we have just mentioned enables the satisfaction of fundamental psychological needs (autonomy, competence and affiliation), which improves the level of motivation of employees. So we understand that, if management is to be effective today, it must become more human and give a place of honour to the meaning of work.fr_FR
