Résumé: Our work is based on « esthetical devices of a pact and the meaning of the story in Le Pacte of Marcellin Sétondji Dossou ». The pact has been till now a sacred topic in our African cultures due to the fact that it is forbidden for a category of people, its consequences which can be dangerous if clauses are not respected. Therefore, Marcellin Setondji brings out the fact that whoever can practise it. So the problem here is the place that African gives to traditional values which found his/her personality in a world in perpetual change. For a good work, we made use of sociocritic according to René MAHIEU and Jacques DUBOIS. The work is divided into three parts in which we bring out historical characteristics of the novel in the time. It is noticed that a pact cannot be undone once sealed, and brings happiness to the actors if they respect conditions. The second part brings out writer’s freedom thanks to his text. The writer uses his work as paint to unveil his style by painting the society. The third and last part insists on the character of a writer as an architect of a new city. We come out with results that pact is one of African wealth which should be respected. Moreover, since the writer has revealed it to readers, they too become members of the pact.
