Résumé: | This work assesses the contribution of the UNDP in the fight against the poverty in Cameroon from 1972 to 2021, based on the framework of the United Nations Development Aid and the results of the field work as well. To this effect, it is worth mentioning here the resort of Cameroon to the multilateral cooperation as it is the case here with the call for help by Cameroon to the UNDP, come as a result on one part of being a member of the United Nations community and on the other part the will of Cameroon to promote its influence thanks to the international solidarity. Using the ten cycle program of the UNDP in Cameroon and the different projects carried out, this shows that UNDP program has the authority as far as the fight against poverty and the promotion of development in the world in general and in Cameroon as well is concerned. Elsewhere, the implementation of these actions is made easier by the resilience culture of the majority of Cameroonian. With this, what historical appreciation can one have on the contribution of UNDP on the fight against poverty in Cameroon? From various sources included archives, oral, written, iconographic and digital sources and following a diachronic and synchronic analyses, coupled with qualitative and quantitative interpretation methods, we have established on one hand, the link between the natural environment and the poverty in certain localities of the country and on the other side, do a review of development policies in Cameroon from 1970, before the official installation of the UN programs. It is important to pay attention to the increment of the rate of poverty in the mid-1980s due to the economic crisis. Later the members of the staff of UNDP in Cameroon were introduced as well as some permanent members living in Cameroon. The main target was the reduction of the rate of poverty in Cameroon with help of the organization. What is more, the geolocalisation of the poors was done as to find the best ways and means to help them. The most affected areas by poverty are the rural areas. The most important problems encountered in the fight against poverty are the inequality, the security and sanitary problems, the shortage of financial means just to name a few. Despite the will of the UNDP to eradicate the poverty in Cameroon, this write up comes to the conclusion that this cooperation presents real and great opportunities to overcome the poverty, but is not enough. The well-being of the population and the human development can only be achieved if the assistance of the international community is more conditionalities free, if the rate of corruption decreases and if there is a better redistribution of opportunities in the society. |
