The growth of cities and the development of transport have led to the emergence of the phenomenon of street congestion and its spread in the various cities of the world. In the Cameroonian context, the withdrawal of the Cameroonian State from the transport sector after the economic crisis of the 80s inevitably led to proliferation of means of automobile transport in several cities country. This proliferation which is not accompanied by a comparable development of road infrastructures, creates serious congestion problems. Douala, the economic capital, is no exception to this reality. Moreover, in this third arrondissement, the congestion of the streets rhymes with insecurity. In an attempt to fight against this phenomenon in order to reduce insecurity in the Douala 3rd district, we have adopted a methodical approach based on direct observations, interviews, focus groups and above all a survey by questionnaire with 218 households. It shows that not only does the congestion phenomenon paralyzes urban transport in Douala 3rd, but also induces insecurity. This situation seriously harms the daily life of city dwellers by favoring assaults, thefts, accidents, stress and economically, threatens the stability of employment. Strategies combining, among other things, actions on the roads, the development of the intersections and parking spaces, the education of road users, the reorganization of the public transport system have been proposed to combat the phenomenon of congestion ands its repercussions on the safety of people and property in the Douala 3rd district.en_US
