Résumé: Our present research is entitled: Causes of the misuse of logical connectors and consequences for the development of essay writing skills: the case of Première in the town of Mbalmayo. The aim of logical connectors, while insisting on remediation through exercise and also on the system for teaching logical connectors, taking into account the deconstruction and reconstruction of knowledge about logical connectors. Our work is to show the causes of the poor use of logical connectors and their impact on the development of essay writing skills. In order to answer the research question: “What can justify the poor use of logical connectors by Première learners?” We opted for a mixed approach: interviews with teachers and questionnaires with learners. The results of this analysis are as follows: ignorance of the nature of words is a non-negligible factor in the mastery of logical connectors; the erroneous use of logical connectors by Première students in essay writing is linked to the fact that they confuse their values; the lack of organization and cohesion observed in essay writing papers are the consequence of the poor use of discourse markers. Thus, with reference to the theoretical underpinnings and to the authors who have preceded us, we have put forward a number of suggestions to guide learners, teachers and educational inspectors on strategies for improving the methods of teaching.
