dc.description.abstract | Following the independence of African states, the mobility of peoples and goods has become a priority for them. The establishment of transport structures in Cameroon such as the Society of Cameroonian Urban Transport (SOTUC) has facilitated travel while creating driver jobs for drivers of these interurban transport buses. Although the establishment of this structure favored the displacement of the population, it encountered difficulties following the economic crisis that struck Cameroon, causing the closure of this urban transport company. The study entitled “The socio-economic activities of motorcycle taxis in the city of Bertoua in Eastern Cameroon (1990- 2019)” aims to show, through the data collected, that the activity of motorcycles taxis participates in the socio- economic development of the city and the population of this locality, creating jobs for the unemployed while allowing them to support the needs of their families, fruiting their own income. By this reflection, it is a matter of analyzing the socio-economic impact of motorcycle taxis in the development process of the city of Bertoua and its populations following the analysis of data collected with the help of documentary research, direct observation and individual interviews with motorcyclist taxis drivers in the city. It turns out that these activities are a real feedstock of jobs, thus lowering the unemployment rate, but also increasing the uncertainty rate in the city. It thrives because of the illiteracy of most motorcycle drivers, who do not comply with the codes, road practices and regulations in force regarding the operation of motorcycles. In order to better structure the activities of motorcycle taxis in urban areas, it is necessary that they are sufficiently informed through awareness-raising and training campaigns, but also that the actions of the trade unions are directed towards education, awakening and formation. This involves the entire community, namely motorcycle taxi drivers, the population, public authorities and municipal authorities. | en_US |
