Résumé: | The present study falls within the field of stylistics. It is a discipline whose object of study is the style of writers. Fatou Diome, Senegalese author, in her novel intitled Le Ventre de l’Atlantique exposes the hidden face of the immigration. This novel stands out for its plurality of facts which contributes to the derision. This is what this work was intitled: the study of derision in Le Ventre de l’Atlantique. Derision is defined as disdainful mokery mixed with contempt. So what are the language mechanisms that the Senegalese author uses to convey the derisory? Using Michael Riffaterre’s theory of structural stylistics, we show that the derision used by the writer has a com- plex mechanism. Indeed, dependind on the objective sought by the speaker, derision can be either pejorative or meliorative. This is how throught the study of language facts like figures of speech, modalities of enunciation, the lexicon, the implicit we demonstrate that Fatou Diome wants to de- nounce social problems and raise awareness the individuals. As a result, the demon turns out to be a weapon that allows the author to achieve her objectives while protecting herself from any reprisals. |
