Résumé: This research work is entitled « Le coq et les usages culturels chez les Fang du sud Cameroun: Etude anthropologique » attempted to remove an ambiguity on the cultural uses linked to the cockerel in the Fang of Ambam socio-culture. The rooster is presented here as a laboratory, allowing the sick to be examined and even cured. In addition, we have illustrated some of the uses to which the rooster ritual is put. This is precisely the case with circumcision, the Nkou’ou heritage dance, the rites of enthronement of a chief, washing and protection. The rooster at this level therefore appears to be a channel that favors these different uses in the solution of problems that arise in the Fang community of Ambam. It is therefore this cultural phenomenon as a whole among the Fang of Ambam that attracted us, and this investigation was furnished with the following main question: What are the different uses of the rooster in the rites of the Fang of southern Cameroon? Thus, this question generated the hypothesis that the rooster is a laboratory that the Fang use in the consultation of the sick in Ambam, would play on the one hand the important role in the prevention and healing of the sick, and on the other hand promote the development of the Fang population of Ambam. This research has laid the groundwork for the different uses of the rooster in the process of finding solutions to the problems faced by the Fang community. The cultures are singular, varied, numerous and diverse. There are able to produce knowledge and expertise in a particular environment as is the case in Ambam. To verify this conjecture, we proceeded by demonstrating the sources of the matrix, the foundations of the ritual linked to the rooster and their uses in Ambam. To achieve this, we used a qualitative approach through literature review, interviews and focus group discussion. We therefore carried out a thematic literature review, in-depth interviews and focused group discussions. Data was collected using field notebooks, tape recorder, camera, ballpoint pens, ordinary pencil, interview and observation guides. To do this, the different information collected was given meaning by the theory of social representations, ethnomethodology and the principles of African epistemology. This was the moment for us to make it possible to solve certain problems that arise in the Fang community of Ambam and to be able to re-establish the cosmic order.
