Résumé: This thesis deals with "professional self-determination and the orientation of girls towards traditionally male courses: cases of students at the École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique of the University of Yaoundé 1". It is based on the observation that the number of female students enrolling in engineering courses is increasing. The objective is to understand, on the one hand, the interest and motivations that explain the orientation of young girls in traditionally male sectors as well as the obstacles they encounter and the strategies they put in place to achieve their objectives. To achieve these objectives, the study is based on a qualitative methodology. The survey was conducted on a sample of nine ENSPY students from various courses considered male according to the stratified sampling technique. The data obtained underwent a thematic analysis of the content. The results show that girls 45% perceive traditionally male sectors as promoting sectors, 25 % perceive it as a major asset in the job market and 30% take it as a means to break gender stereotype. On the other hand, the choice of these sectors is linked to personal reasons and certain external influences. In addition, they encounter difficulties such as the lack of material, the stressful working environment and stereotyped questioning eyes. It is this bundle of factors that allow them to implement strategies for success.
