| Résumé: | The objective of this study is to describe and say how the school guidance practices guide the choice of the study path for students at the bilingual high school of Ekounou. This subject resolves the problem of under-consideration of the work of the guidance counselor when supporting students in choosing the right course of study. And this under-consideration has generated a crisis of poor performance in the study path chosen by students in schools in Cameroon. How do the practices of school guidance guide students in the choice of the study path at the bilingual high school of Ekounou? How does the realization of training, administrative and research activities, adapted services guide students in the choice of the study path at the bilingual high school Ekounou? Students and guidance counselors explained how training, administrative and research activities and adapted services are carried out within their establishment in the theories of the person-centered approach (Rogers, 2001) and the social cognitive theory of school and career guidance (Lent, 2008). The results of the analysis of the data collected show that the implementation of adapted services does not help students make the right choice of a course of study. The guidance counselors the work they do on a daily basis to make their work considerable by the other links in the educational chain. We conducted this study with a sample of seventy-six (N=76), divided as follows: 70 respondents (repeating students) and 06 others (guidance counselors), all from the high School. This research is mixed. The data collection in the field was done using a questionnaire for students and an interview guide for guidance counselors; including dichotomous questions (Fortin, 2006) on the choice of two answers “Yes” or “No” to measure the practices of school guidance and the choice of the study path in this high school. The data were analyzed using SPSS software under windows version 2 for students and content analysis for guidance counselors. |
