Résumé: This study entitled “Human resource management and its effect on teachers’ commitment” sets out to solve the problem of low productivity levels and lack of proper follow up among teachers and school administrators. The purpose of this study was to examine human resource management and its effect on teachers’ commitment. This study was guided by four research objectives which enabled the work to be carried out successfully as the researcher was able to seek ways to improve on the different challenges facing teachers’ commitment, thereby necessitated the need for proper human resources management strategies. The study centred on four constructs of human resources management -compensation, professional development, job security and work environment. The main theories that guided this work are the Equity Theory, the Herzberg’s Two Factors Theory, social exchange theory and the human capital theory
