| Résumé: | Social networks, are platforms where speakers express themselves without any form of monitoring, although their language is different depending on the communication situations they are faced with. This encourages them to change their style through the use of existing language registers. It is on the strength of this observation that we have entitled our subject “style variation of internet users on Facebook and WhatsApp social networks”. The aim of this study is to highlight the variation in style of internet users on these networks through their language productions. To do this, it sets out to answer the central question of how the variation in style of internet users on the Facebook and WhatsApp networks manifest itself. To answer this question, we base our work on Labov’s perspective, which presents style variation as a concept that accounts for the different styles adopted by speakers according to the degree of control they give to their language productions, and according to the degree of formality of the communication situation in which they find themselves. In order to carry out our research, we used the method of non-participant observation, which enabled us to collect elements (in the form of captures) and after processing, we came to the conclusion that the style of internet users varies according to the several factors, and also emanates from the speakers’ own will. |
