Prunus africana is a forest species much prized for the medicinal properties of its bark. Its bark extracts are used for the treatment of prostatic hypertrophy and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Global demand for bark is estimated at more than 4,000 t / year, for a value of 220 million Dollars. Furthermore, it was revealed that the phenolic compounds contained in this species act against the free radicals, which would be responsible for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Hence the objective of this work is to evaluate the efficacy of gibberellic acid (GA3) on growth and salicylic acid on the phenolic content in P. africana. For this, the seed germination rate was evaluated based on the storage period at 0; 3 and 16 days and the dose of 0; 10; 50 and 100 μM GA3, and the effect of GA3 on plant growth of P. africana non-conserved. Also, the evaluation of the effectiveness of different doses of salicylic acid on the phenolic compounds content in the leaves and stems was performed after transplantation of the seedlings which did not receive the GA3. The results revealed that the germination rate decrease with the conservation of seeds and the doses of 10, 100 and 50 μM GA3 respectively stimulated the germination rate of seeds to 76; 70 and 63%. Also, the dose of 10 μM GA3 has favored the better elongation of roots, stems and increased the leaf area. Furthermore, the foliar application of 2 mM salicylic acid enhanced the total polyphenol content in the leaves and stems. This study improved the phenolic content in P. africana.fr_FR
