Résumé: | This work, entitled “Discipline management strategies and students’ academic achievement: the case of selected public secondary school students within the Buea municipality”, aims at studying the impact of discipline on academic achievement. The main research hypothesis states that there is a close link between discipline management strategies and students’ academic achievement. In a bid to verify this hypothesis and its deriving secondary hypotheses, we applied Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, student t- test for independent samples, ANOVA, and Mediated Regression methods. Questionnaires were used to collect data from our target population namely GHS Bokwango, GHS Buea Town and BGS Molyko. Our research is quantitative in nature, and is guided by a cross-sectional survey research design. The results obtained from the data analysis indicate that there is a significant correlation between monitoring, preventive control techniques, suspension/expulsion, moral education (discipline management strategies) and students’ academic achievement. As a result, suggestions were made to educational stakeholders including parents to see into it that students’ academic achievement is enhanced to its full capacity at home, in the society, and within the school environment. |
