Résumé: A long time ago, movements were done on foot or through rudimentary means like animals or bicycles. With the scientific revolution, other mode of transport saw the day notably automobiles. This sector has known an expansion due to easy use and acquisition. This sector has gradually gained ground. In 1850, the train was the most used means of transport for visits. However, the automobile sector has replaced the train due to its reliability and rapidity. Everybody does not have access to vehicles; tourists can‟t move with their own cars, hence the creation of car renting agencies (in order to ease their trip). It is within this framework that I did our research through the topic “car renting agencies and development of tourism in Cameroon: the case of Yaounde”. The aim of this research is to show the contribution of car renting agencies in tourism. In fact, what is the contribution of this sector to tourism in Cameroon in particular, and in the Cameroonian economy in general. In the order to achieve such an aim, it is necessary for us to show the actual state of functioning of car renting agencies in the landscape of Yaounde, looking for the difficulties that this sector is facing and developing some strategies of its promotion might in one way or the other enable its improvement in Cameroon. I used both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Nevertheless the step that we mostly use in our study is the systemic approach. This research has enabled us to consult some books, articles and thesis etc. and this has been done reliable places like masters library of university of Yaounde I, and the Higher Teacher Training College just to mention these few. In addition, field investigation was done using questionnaires, interview guides, snap shots and GPS survey. In treating our data, we realized that the contribution of car renting agencies in tourism is still very weak. The major constrains are the lack of sufficient customers, insufficient fund, unavailable cars and a weak promotion. To face these problems, we gave orientations to develop this sector notably an efficient promotion so to contribute to the development of Cameroon.
