Résumé: This study focused on «Teaching geography and developing cartographic skills in the training of learners in 3rd grade". The purpose of this work was to evaluate the role of cartographic practices in the development of cartographic skills of learners in 3rd grade. We started from the main hypothesis that the teaching of geography in grade 3 contributes considerably to the development of students' cartographic skills. To achieve our goals, our methodology consisted of interviews with 3 geography teachers in the 3rd grade at Biyem-assi High School, Mendong High School and Fleming College. Next, 120 students were surveyed in the third grade and the data collected and analyzed revealed three main results. Indeed, the results from the analyzes showed that the cartographic supports occupy a very particular status in the teaching process of geography in the 3rd class. Both teachers and students recognize almost all the importance played by the use of cartographic supports. In practice, most of the exercises in cartographic practice during geography classes in grade 3 are related to activities such as reading maps, sketching maps and analyzing maps. In addition, we noted that the lack of training of geography teachers in cartographic practices, the lack of teaching aids, as well as the low level of general education are all factors that considerably limit the teaching process in the 3rd year classes. . For this reason, we believe that it is essential to strengthen the training of these teachers in cartographic practices and to propose in a precise way a methodology to effectively deliver the cartography courses to 3rd graders.
