Tourisme et insécurité dans l’arrondissement de mogode (extreme-nord cameroun)

Abstract

This present work is focused on tourism and insecurity in Mogodé. It stems from the fact that touristic activities have been halted in the sub-division following the condition of insecurity in the peripheries since 2013. The objective fixed by this work is to relaunch the activity of a sector which was the main source of revenue for the majority of the population. The methodology adopted is a systematic approach which is combined with a documentary research and to field inquiries. Tourism considered as a transversal activity or a system, many people working in the touristic domains and security were interviewed using interview guides and questionnaires. The results obtained show that thanks to its unique touristic potential in the Far North, the touristic activity was a source of livelihood to many families and was contributing to local development before the start of the period of insecurity. This hope was rapidly reversed at the moment when the insecurity took another dimension resulting to hostage-taking of foreign tourists and terrorists attacks. Touristic activities at first were at their highest peak but suddenly entered into a dark period and was reduced as Mogodé was largely confronted by misfortunes. This work therefore proposes ways to boost tourism, to accentuate promotional campaigns and social and environmental action in favor of poverty reduction and of climatic changes due to desertification and air polution
