Résumé: | The present work, which deals with “Communal management and local socio-economic development: the case study of the Okola commune, 1952 – 2020”, highlights the question of the managerial action of communal executives in the socio-economic development process of the Okola locality. The advent of mixed rural communes in Cameroon was noted from the 1950s onwards and the locality of Okola became a mixed rural commune by decree No. 537 of 21 August 1952. The young subdivision in order to integrate the dynamism of the national local socio-economic development, underwent an evolution in three administrative phases; the administrator-mayors to the elected mayors passing by the administrator-municipals. It is during these phases that the development agents undertook to set up several educational and health infrastructures for the development of the local populations. What is the contribution of the communal executives in the socio-economic revitalization of the local populations of Okola? Answering this question led to several collection and analysis tools which opened a breach to a qualitative as well as quantitative approach of the achievements in a chronological approches, in order to lead to a local infrastructural insufficiency compared to the high population in the commune of Okola. However, the communal development plans make it possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the commune in Cameroon. As a result, a reliable approach that implements the managerial policy of local executives has come to boost local development in Okola. |
