This research focuses on the prevention of geological hazards and the participatory dynamics of the population of the Yaoundé 6 district. It is motivated by the observation that, despite the measures and initiatives adopted to reduce the occurrence of natural hazards in general and geological hazards in particular in Cameroonian cities, the latter continue to increase exponentially, all this in the face of the almost powerless gaze of the population. Based on this observation, the general objective of our study was to identify and analyse the reasons for the low level of involvement of the local population in the prevention of geological hazards in their district. We chose the Yaoundé 6 district firstly because we live there, but also and above all because the problem is acute in this district. In order to achieve the objective of our study, the following question was asked: What justifies the low level of involvement of the population of the Yaoundé 6 district in the prevention of geological risks within their district? The main hypothesis we formulate is that the economic level of the population, their poor knowledge of the risks and the absence or poor risk management policy within this district are all factors that justify the low involvement of the population of Yaoundé 6 in the prevention of geological risks within their district. Based on qualitative methods, the theoretical dimension of this research used the systems approach, vulnerability theory and resilience theory. Data was collected through documentary research, observation and interviews with the social actors concerned. It appears that the implementation of the participatory approach to geological risk prevention in the Yaoundé 6 district has often been a mere administrative formality with no real impact, and has often failed to take into account the position of the parties affected. In addition, this practice suffers from a lack of information and awareness.fr_FR
