Leather is the result of the transformation of animal skin into a finished and durable product. To make it rot-proof, the skin must be treated. This is called tanning, which is either mineral or vegetable. Our brief proposes to debunk this concept but also to explore the multiple aspects of this industry. Therefore, we conducted an experimental study on the theme: "MANUFACTURE OF LUXURY ITEMS FROM THE SKINS OFMONITOR LIZARDS AND SNAKES". The main objective of our work is based on the enhancement of local products through the establishment of an experimental process for treating the skins of snakes and monitor lizards with a view to its application in the manufacture of a handbag, The first part of our work, consisted in making a study on the textile material called leather. It turns out that leather is a noble material whose existence is ancestral. It is subdivided into two main groups, namely ecological leathers which come from a putrescible natural material which is therefore biodegradable and synthetic leathers which are materials imitating the appearance of leather. We have also presented the different skin treatment operations, namely the pre-tanning, the tanning, the selection, the working and the finishing. In the second part it was a question of presenting on the one hand the tools which were used to us during the manufacturing process and on the other hand the method which led us to obtain it from leather and to make our articles of luxury (bag, shoes and belt). These stages include supply, river bathing, tanning, finishing, design and production of luxury items. At the end of the third part it is a question of analyzing the results. To know if the leather obtained was used to make the luxury items so the functions are: utility, aesthetic, symbolic and protective. Despite the difficulties we have faced, the results obtained are satisfactory. In fact, the leather used for the manufacture of luxury articles has the desired characteristics, namely flexibility, robustness, finesse, waterproof, a pleasant nuance, light odor and flexibility.en_US
